West Bromwich Albion midfielder Craig Gardner has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to his side’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United away from home in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Baggies headed into the encounter at St. James’ Park full of confidence and on the back of a 1-0 victory over Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford.
It was West Brom who took the lead in Newcastle when Victor Anichebe headed home just past the half-hour mark.
Hosts Newcastle restored parity four minutes before the half-time interval through Ayoze Perez, and the rest of the game did not produce any more goals.
Following the draw, Gardner made the following post on Twitter.
Tough game today but a massive point thanks to the traveling fans as usual get home safely. Also nice to help @SunderlandAFC with that point— Craig Gardner (@CraigGards8) May 9, 2015
Gardner joined West Brom from Sunderland in the summer of 2014, and one can understand why he would want to do his former club a favour.
The Black Cats are struggling for survival in the Premier League and currently find themselves 16th in the league standings.
Sunderland have picked up 36 points from 35 matches, same as many as 17th-placed Newcastle but having played a fewer game.
Meanwhile, West Brom are safe from relegation as they are seven points above the bottom three with just two more rounds of matches remaining.
