Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood knows Tom Cleverley can score goals from stint at his first club

Tom Cleverley 2

Cleverley scored plenty of goals with Watford during the 2009-10 season.

Aston Villa defeated West Ham again today, with a 1-0 win at Villa Park doing the trick. The performance was worthy of the result, with Jack Grealish and Cleverley in particular in fantastic form.

Cleverley had failed to score since December 2013 until last week, ironically against Villa for Manchester United, but has now scored three goals in as many games.

His goalscoring performances have received plenty of praise from pundits and fans alike, as well as his manager.

Tim Sherwood however knows that he is capable of scoring goals, as he revealed to the BBC yesterday:

"I watched Tom Cleverley score a lot of goals for Watford many years ago, but you've got to get into the box to score goals - and he's done that.

"I want two wins now. We're going all out for that."

Of course Sherwood knows a thing or two about Watford. He started his career with Watford, playing with the club for two seasons before heading off to Norwich City.

Cleverley spent the 2009-10 season on loan at Watford from Manchester United, where he scored 11 goals in 35 games for the Hornets as he went on to be named the club's player of the season.

Sherwood knows that if Cleverley can rediscover that scoring touch, he is a magnificent asset to have in the team.

The only question is, will the summer free agent still be at Villa next season?
