Report: Tottenham Hotspur hold talks with Fiorentina over midfield flop Paulinho

The Brazilian has failed to live up to expectations at White Hart Lane.

It is being reported in Italy that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in selling their midfielder Paulinho, with their Europa League conquerors Fiorentina.

It is being reported that the Brazilian is set for an exit in the summer and that Tottenham used their meeting with Fiorentina in the Europa League to begin negotiations over the future of the Selecao international.

It is reported by La Nazione, as reported by, that Franco Baldini held talks with La Viola throughout April regarding a deal. Fiorentina need a new central midfield player - with David Pizarro and Alberto Aquilani both set to depart the club.

Paulinho arrived at Tottenham in a mega-money deal back in July 2013. He was snapped up from Corinthians after an excellent run of form in Brazil. Spurs beat several big clubs to secure his signature, for a fee reported to be in the £17 million region by the BBC.

However he has struggled to have an impact at the club. He was known as a goal-scoring midfielder, but has only scored a handful of games and most of his recent performances have been as a substitute - after the emergence of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason.

Spurs would want to recoup the majority of the fee they paid for the Brazilian, so it is unknown if Fiorentina will spend that type of money.

If they will, it is likely he will be moved on.
