Manchester United fans react to news Michael Carrick is out for the season

Manchester United will be missing one of their most important players for the rest of the campaign, so what do their fans think of the news?

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shin injury, with the club’s manager Louis van Gaal confirming the blow in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

In comments later published on United’s official website, the Dutchman said, “He shall not play anymore this season; it’s better now to focus for him on next season and being fit to start.”

The news is a huge blow, with Carrick being an integral part of United’s good form directly prior to his setback.

The 33-year-old has missed United’s last three matches and the club have suffered three straight defeats, leaving their hopes of finishing in the top-four resting if not on a knife-edge than certainly something far more precarious than fans thought just a few short weeks ago.

When Carrick plays, United rarely lose, but without him they struggle and with games against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Hull City still to come, van Gaal will know they have plenty of work to do.
