Liverpool’s Iago Aspas comments on potential Celta Vigo return

The Spaniard has stated that he does not see himself reuniting with his former employers in 2015-16.

Liverpool’s recent history of signing Spanish players has seen the Anfield club have its fair share of success stories and failures.

For every Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina, there has also been a player that has not lived up to his billing.

One of the most frustrating figures in a Reds jersey in recent seasons has been Iago Aspas, who arrived on Merseyside with a substantial reputation but failed to deliver for the Reds.

The 27-year-old has been spending this season on loan in his homeland with Sevilla, but is line for a return to Liverpool at the end of the season.

Aspas signed for Brendan Rodgers’ men from Celta Vigo, where he become something of a cult hero.

Despite this, the Spaniard has stated that a return to his boyhood club appears unlikely ahead of 2015-16.

“Right now it is difficult to see a return to Celta Vigo next season,” he told Faro de Vigo.

Aspas only spent one season with the Premier League side but did not score a goal in his debut campaign in English top-flight football.

Liverpool are in the market for a new striker this summer, with the Spaniard looking increasingly likely to be sold.
