Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has taken to social networking site Twitter to congratulate Adam Clayton on Middlesbrough’s win against Brentford away from home on Friday.
Middlesbrough took a step closer to gaining promotion to the Premier League, as they got the better of Brentford at Griffin Park in the first leg of the Championship semi-final playoff.
Aitor Karanka’s side went ahead in the 26th minute when Jelle Vossen headed home Clayton’s cross.
Andre Gray restored parity for hosts Brentford when he robbed goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos on the edge of his penalty area and tucked the ball in.
However, Middlesbrough had the last laugh, as Fulham-owned central defender Fernando Amorebieta struck home what proved to be the winning goal in the match in injury time.
Following the win, former Liverpool star Hamann congratulated his former Manchester City teammate Clayton on the win.
