Adam Matthews explains why Celtic want to beat Aberdeen this weekend

A Celtic player has been looking ahead to the weekend's fixtures.

Celtic player Adam Matthews has explained why his side still want to beat Aberdeen this weekend despite securing the Scottish Premiership title with three games remaining.

The Bhoys were crowned champions when Aberdeen lost 1-0 to Dundee United last Saturday, but despite being impossible to catch, Celtic seemingly have no intention of taking their foot off the gas in the home-straight.

In comments published by the club’s official Twitter account, the 23-year-old right-back explained what Celtic want to do between now and the end of the campaign.

“Even though we have won the league we want to get maximum points,” Matthews said.

“Aberdeen have pushed us really well this season and we want to show them that we deserved to win the league.”

Celtic are currently 11 points clear at the top of the table with Saturday’s match followed by clashes with St Jonhstone and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

If the Bhoys do as Matthews has implied and take maximum points from those fixtures, they will end the season with a mightily impressive 94 points from 38 games played.

Then it will be up to Celtic manager Ronny Deila to start focusing on the upcoming Champions League qualifiers and any new signings he wishes to bring in.
