Mark Noble: I wouldn't want to battle against these two West Ham stars

West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has praised the ability of teammates James Collins and Joey O'Brien to battle physically.

West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble told the club’s website that he wouldn’t want to get involved in a scrap against teammates James Collins and Joey O’Brien.

Noble was asked in an interview who he felt the toughest players were at the club, who were the least likely to pull out of a challenge against another player and he suggested the duo were important for the club in that area.

“He (James Collins) definitely chucks his body in the way. He’s a big fella and brave. Joey’s also a good tackler – If I didn’t have to, I wouldn’t want to go in with either of those two, I wouldn’t pull out of a challenge but I’d be nervous going into one,” said Noble.

It’s important for any club to have players who can perform aggressively, getting stuck in and battling against the opposition in a physical sense.

There is no need for them to be reckless in the way they go about their business, but they can set the tone and let the opposition know that they are in for a scrap.

It’s a tactic which has the ability to put the opposition onto the back foot, making it easier for players like Collins and O’Brien to bully their opposition.

The important factor that manager Sam Allardyce will always stress is discipline and ensuring that neither player gets carried away, which could result in bookings and impact injuries.
