Manchester United media round-up: van Gaal stresses importance of midfield duo

A round up of news stories this morning related to Manchester United.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been quoted by the Daily Star explaining when he feels his midfield have a problem.

The Dutchman likes to play with his team using a calm, holding midfield style of player.

He’s suggested that when the side don’t have someone who fits into that category, United tend to struggle.

“When (Daley) Blind and Carrick have been injured, we have a big problem,” he said.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has told the Independent that he feels Memphis Depay will add to the side up front.

United announced yesterday that they had agreed a deal with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to sign Depay when the summer transfer window opened.

Louis van Gaal appears keen to get his transfer business out of the way early after some late deals last summer.

“He has pace, which has always been a feature of great United teams, and has been badly lacking this season at times,” he said.

The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United are set to miss out in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.

His brother has revealed that he will be ready to talk with Serie A giants Juventus, once PSG’s season has ended.

United are yet to make formal contact over the player if reports of their interest are accurate.
