Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Manchester United signing Memphis Depay

Liverpool have missed out to Manchester United in the race to sign Memphis Depay.

Memphis Depay has joined the growing list of Liverpool transfer misses, after he signed with Manchester United.

The Red Devils confirmed a deal had been agreed to sign the Dutch winger on their official website, with Depay himself discussing how excited he was to make the move.

Liverpool had been regarded as United's biggest rivals to sign the PSV winger, with the Metro reporting this week the Reds were 'clear' to sign the 21-year-old.

Liverpool were reported to have met with Depay last week, as reported ESPN, in an effort to sign the winger.

Their failed attempt would not be so bad in isolation. United had an advantage in signing Depay due to his previous work with Dutch international boss Louis van Gaal, and the Red Devils are more likely to be playing Champions League football next season.

Instead he joins a growing list of near misses for Liverpool in recent years. They have tried and attempted to sign players including Alexis Sanchez, Willian, Yevhen Konoplyanka, and Mohamed Salah.

This would not be such a slight if the players they had bought instead had worked out, but this summer they have not. Lazar Markovic, Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana have each failed to hit the spot at a combined investment of more than £50 million.

The Depay miss has left supporters frustrated, worried they have missed out on another top level talent to a rival. Here is a look at the reaction...
