Has Steve Thompson had an influence on Redfearn's reported transfer targets?

Elland Road Revie Stand

The Leeds boss reportedly wants three players all with promotion experience. Two of them have worked with Steve Thompson before.

What is most striking about Neil Redfearn's reported list of summer transfer targets at Leeds United - as suggested by the Yorkshire Evening Post - is the fact that all three possess a selling point that could make them every appealing indeed to the Elland Road outfit.

Yes, they have all featured in - and in some cases starred in - promotion campaigns.

Charlie Adam was the man in form when Blackpool went up to the Premier League, while Matt Phillips experienced promotion with Queens Park Rangers last season. So too did Jason Shackell at Burnley.

Redfearn has talked all season long about the need for Championship experience and that's exactly what his reported trio of transfer targets would bring to Elland Road.

But there's another key fact about two of them. Indeed, Steve Thompson has worked with both Adam and Phillips - and it's therefore no surprise they have come into the Leeds boss's thinking.

Their inclusions could even suggest a massive Thompson influence. Redfearn would no doubt have discussed his summer plans with his assistant manager before he was suspended - and he has since called for Thompson's return at Leeds.

Should the 49-year-old secure the targets he wants, it's an added 'pro' in his case to have the no.2 brought back to Elland Road. Who better to get the most out of them than the man who has already coached them?

Even if Thompson's future remains away from Leeds, however, it looks as though he will still have a significant bearing on events at the club as long as Redfearn is in charge.
