Celtic's Adam Matthews hopes to stay injury-free next season

One of Celtic's key players has been reflecting on this season and looking ahead to the next one.

Celtic defender Adam Matthews has been speaking about his injury problems this season.

The 23-year-old was speaking ahead of the Bhoys’ Scottish Premiership clash with Aberdeen this weekend, in comments later posted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Matthews has featured 39 times for Celtic this season, but a few minor injuries have blighted his campaign and prevented him from really building up a head of steam.

“It has been a little bit up and down but is has also probably been one of my best,” Mathews said.

“I had a good run from Christmas until recently. Next season I want to try and not get injured at all.”

Matthews is one of a number of right-backs at Celtic, all pushing for first-team chances, but the player’s innate ability has seen him feature more regularly than not when fully fit.

He has played his part in Celtic’s double-winning campaign and despite missing recent games against the likes of Dundee and Dundee United, he will be hoping to get a few more matches under his belt before he sets his sights on an injury-free pre-season and beyond.

In total Mathews has featured 147 times for Celtic, and while he has missed games this season he has not been affected by the kind of injuries that struck him the previous year.
