The veteran goalkeeper became the proud owner of an odd record in the 3-2 win over Everton.
The Irishman was preferred ahead of regular number one Brad Guzan for the game after the American’s costly error in the 3-2 loss to Manchester City last time around.
The appearance was Given’s 441st in the Premier League and brought an end to a long drought, with the veteran having last featured in the league in August 2012, again against Everton.
However, it was not the number of appearances that was the important aspect of his fixture, instead it was the manager under which he was making his appearance.
Tim Sherwood was the 17th different manager that Given has appeared under in the Premier League, becoming the first player to do so in the division’s history. In fact, the closest to the record is fellow Irishman Damien Duff, and former Manchester City teammate James Milner, who both sit on 16 each.
There’s still time for Milner to beat the record – especially as speculation builds surrounding his future - but for the time being, it seems Shay Given is the proud owner of one of the Premier League’s strangest records.
