Wolfsburg director comments on Bas Dost’s future, amid Newcastle and Southampton interest

Dost has been linked with Newcastle and Southampton, but Wolfsburg have no desire to sell him.

The hotshot striker was at one time the most prolific forward in 2015, and Wolfsburg director Klaus Allofs has told FIFA.com that the Bundesliga club have no need to sell him.

Allofs said: “Both of them [Dost and Nicklas Bendtner] have contracts with us and there is no reason for us to sell them.”

The German high-fliers would certainly rue losing the Dutch international, after his impressive goalscoring feats this term.

18 Bundesliga games have brought a return of 14 goals, including a mesmerising run at the turn of the year in which he netted 12 times in seven appearances.

This form brought interest from the Premier League, and the Mirror has suggested that Newcastle and Southampton are both interested in signing the 25-year-old this summer, despite the fact that he has netted just one goal since the start of March.

His hot-and-cold form has done little to reduce the interest in him, and with top class strikers a rare commodity in modern day football, the Premier League duo are clearly keen to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of next season.

Still, Dost has a contract at Wolfsburg until 2017, and the club are decidedly against selling one of their prize assets as they look to topple Bayern Munich’s stronghold on the league.

Unless either of the interested Premier League duo come in with a sizeable offer this summer, it would be no surprise to see the 25-year-old forward remain in Germany next season.
