Westwood is one of the Aston Villa players who has benefited from the new energy and enthusiasm that manager Tim Sherwood has brought to the club and Westwood feels it’s paying off for him personally.
“I feel I am playing some of my best football at the moment. I feel I have been doing well and, importantly, the team have been doing well,” said Westwood.
His stats from the club’s last four games certainly suggest that he’s got a point because he’s competitive in different areas despite having only played a total of 138 minutes.
|Position||Team||Won Tackles Per Game||Interceptions Won Per Game||Duels Won Per Game||Accurate Passes Per Game||Appearances||Mins Played|
|Ashley Westwood||MF||Aston Villa||0.5||3||2.5||38.5||2||143|
He’s reading the game well with a high number of interceptions and is also proving to be a very difficult player to get the better of physically, with a decent number of accurate passes per game.
He’s got to maintain his positive level in those key areas to ensure that Villa’s midfield has a strong structural integrity and is very difficult for opposition sides to break down.
For now, Sherwood will want him to focus on those strengths with time to work on his weaknesses over the summer, hopefully, after the club have secured their Premier League survival.
