Barcelona ended the Champions League semi-final three goals to the good, thanks in no small part to Messi.
He was his glorious best as the Catalan club overcame Pep Guardiola’s German champions, netting twice to take the lead, before Luis Suarez killed the game off in injury time.
His performance was brilliant, as were both his goals, but it was his second strike that truly captured the imagination, and showed the Argentine superstar as the talent he is - arguably the best player to have ever graced the game of football.
Sidestepping Jerome Boateng - a World Cup winning defender - Messi turned him inside out, making him slip over, before clipping the ball over Manuel Neuer.
It was a goal of true quality, but Boateng’s slip was the real highlight. It had him sprawling on the floor attempting to prevent Messi getting his shot away, but to little effect.
And in true modern day style, the internet had a field day.
Twitter exploded with memes of Boateng’s fall, and to make it easier for your entertainment, we have collected the best of the bunch right here.
