Tottenham sensation Ismail Azzaoui let down by finishing at UEFA under-17 tournament

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ismail Azzaoui is currently at the European under-17 Championships with Belgium.

Tottenham youngster Ismail Azzaoui saw his Belgium side come up short as the European under-17 championships kicked off.

The talented teenager was in the Belgian starting line-up against Germany, a tough task for the youngsters to kick off the tournament.

Germany won the game 2-0 to take the three points in the group stage match-up, but Azzaoui will have been frustrated at his poor luck in influencing the result.

UEFA's website describes Azzaoui as Belgian's most prominent attacker, missing a chance when put through at the end of the first half.

He went onto create two excellent opportunities for teammates after the break, only for them to fail to get on the scoresheet.

Poor finishing from Azzaoui and the Belgian side in general left them on the wrong end of the result, but the good news is there is time to turn their fortunes around.

They have two games remaining of the group stage, against Czech Republic and Slovenia, matches they will be feel they have a chance of winning. The Czech's won their encounter against Slovenia 1-0 yesterday.

England play at the tournament too, with Azzaoui's Tottenham teammate Marcus Edwards in line to feature for the Young Lions when they face Italy this evening.

Azzaoui was instrumental in Tottenham's Youth Cup run to the semi-finals of the competition this season, and the summer addition from Anderlecht has even made the step up to the under-21s already, at just 17.
