According to the Chronicle, Papiss Cisse is hoping to play a part in helping Newcastle United avoid the drop this season.
Cisse has not played a match for Newcastle since March, but he is still the club's top scorer and they have missed him desperately in his absence.
The Senegalese striker was handed a seven match ban for a spitting incident in the club's game against Manchester United and, during that time, he has also picked up an injury.
That has delayed his return to the first-team but, having trained on his own for the past week, the Chronicle believes that Cisse is ready to play a part for the side again.
It will be up to the club's doctors to judge whether he is fit enough to come back into contention, but John Carver will be hoping that he gets the all clear.
Newcastle have not won any of their last eight league matches and they have been dragged into the thick of the relegation battle.
As a result having their most natural goalscorer available again would be a major boost and everyone involved at St. James' Park will be pleased if Cisse is named in a starting line-up before the end of the season.
