Chelsea have entered the race for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to a report on Goal.com.
Chelsea have been the dominant force in English football this year, but Mourinho knows that they cannot afford to stand still and intends to bring in top-level additions over the summer.
Benteke is said to be one of his main priorities and Chelsea are now expected to launch a bid for the powerful forward in the coming months.
Should Benteke leave Villa to join Chelsea?
Although Benteke's chances of winning honours would increase by joining Chelsea, he must consider whether it is the right move for him.
At Villa he is guaranteed his place in the starting line-up and the club's tactical set-up is built around his talents.
At Chelsea, though, he would likely have to play a back-up role to Diego Costa and, as Loic Remy has found this season, his first-team opportunities could be sparse.
That could be costly for a striker who is rapidly turning into one of the most deadly in European football.
Benteke is still only 24 and has plenty of scope to progress further and, with Villa starting to gather some momentum, he may be best advised to stay put this summer.
