Neymar: Every day I learn from Messi; he's the best in the world

The Brazilian star appreciates the positive influence of Lionel Messi, which is helping him keep improving for Barcelona.

At a press event for PokerStars on Thursday, via Mundo Deportivo, Neymar expressed his gratitude towards Lionel Messi, who has become a hugely influential in his actions, both on and off the pitch.

In particular, Neymar singled out the gesture from Messi in the match against Córdoba, when he rejected the chance to score his hat-trick from the penalty spot, instead offering the Brazilian an opportunity to feature amongst the scorers, as Barcelona thrashed the Andaluz side 8-0 away at Nuevo Arcangel.

"That penalty is a detail of Messi I'll never forget." Neymar explained, pointing out: "He is the best in the world and he could have scored his hat-trick in that game."

The significance of such a gesture from Messi, is one of team-work and the needs of the team, coming before any individual. A lesson that isn't lost on Neymar, who acknowledged: "Every day I learn from Messi and my team-mates. I learn from gestures like that."

Another important lesson learned by Neymar, is one of humility. When asked if he feels the 'MSN' trio he forms a part of, is better than any other attack in the world, compared to boastful comments of previous months, he suggested: "We're not better than anyone. We're simply trying to make our own history and to help our team-mates, so we can win games and demonstrate the football we're capable of."

Nonetheless, the hunger and ambition remains for Neymar and his team-mates at Barcelona, as they pursue silverware on three fronts.

He underlined: "Our objective is the treble. Since the start of the season, that's been our objective, and we're getting closer to it all the time. On Saturday we have a match in La Liga and we need to keep battling, to win the league."
