The Dutch international is not injured but is not strong enough for the game.
He reportedly cost the club £6 million, according to the Daily Mail, which looked a bargain for the attacking midfielder turned striker.
However it has not quite gone to plan for the 26-year-old since his arrival at the club.
He suffered a torn groin muscle in September and had was ruled out until the New Year. Then things went wrong again.
He suffered a collapsed lung earlier in the year and underwent surgery to remedy a problem he has suffered before whilst at Ajax two years ago.
He actually scored his first goal for the club recently. He netted in the 3-2 defeat to Swansea City. He also came on in the 58th minute against Leicester City last weekend.
But he will not play against West Brom on Saturday. John Carver revealed earlier he was having a scan on a thigh problem and the Dutchman has revealed on his Twitter account he is out of action for the weekend, with a sorrowful Tweet:
I'm not injured again, I'm just not strong enough yet. I hope to train again next week and help the team as much as i can the last games 1/2— Siem de Jong (@siemdejong) May 7, 2015
I've tried to come back as soon as possible after 2 heavy operations. I wish I could have done more! #NUFC 2/2— Siem de Jong (@siemdejong) May 7, 2015
This season is looking like a write off for the player. He will be hoping the club manage to stay in the Premier League in his absence.
