Will Memphis Depay take Adnan Januzaj's squad number?

Manchester United have announced a deal is in place to sign Dutch winger Memphis Depay, via their official club website.

Depay told PSV TV that he is excited to make the next step in his career, and link up again with former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal.

With a fee agreed and Depay himself confirming the deal and his happiness to sign with Manchester United, only the minor details need to be ironed out.

Contract length and fee have been finalised, but the medical still needs to be passed, report the BBC.

With no history of serious medical issues it should be a formality, but United fans will feel even better when it has gone through and Depay is standing at Old Trafford holding a Red Devils shirt.

The number of that shirt he will wear remains undecided, but there are options for the marquee signing.

Possible shirt numbers for Memphis Depay

7 - Angel di Maria is the current United number 7, but he has failed to settle since making his British record move from Real Madrid last summer. A summer exit is not impossible with PSG lurking, and Depay's addition may influence his future.

11 - Adnan Januzaj has not kicked on this season, having been handed the number 11 shirt previously held by Ryan Giggs. Depay's signing will make it harder for him to get in the team, and if he is sent out on loan for the season his shirt number would become free.

14 - United's number 14 shirt is presently vacant and it may be Depay's most likely option. It had previously been occupied by Javier Hernandez who is on loan at Real Madrid and not expected to be kept this summer.

20 - Robin van Persie is in the doghouse after his penalty miss at the weekend, and it is still possible he is sold this summer with one year remaining on his contract. If he is then his number 20 shirt could become an option for Dutch teammate Depay.
