John Carver gives Newcastle United injury update ahead of West Bromwich Albion clash

St James Park

Newcastle United will take on West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Newcastle United head coach John Carver has been quoted as saying by the club’s official Twitter page that striker Papiss Cisse has returned to training.

Cisse has not played a single competitive match for Newcastle since March, but he has been training ahead of the clash against West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Senegal international was handed a seven-game ban for a spitting incident during the match against Manchester United, and he also picked up an injury.

"Papiss trained with us for the first time today and it's great to have him back with us,” Carver is quoted as saying by Newcastle’s official Twitter page. “It gives everyone a lift.”

While it remains to be seen if the 29-year-old will play a part against the Baggies, youngster Rolando Aarons could be involved on Saturday.

The 19-year-old winger has been playing with the Under-21 side recently, and he seems to have recovered full fitness.

Carver also gave injury update on 23-year-old defender Paul Dummett and midfielder Siem de Jong.

Newcastle have lost their last eight Premier League matches and find themselves just two points above the relegation zone at the moment.
