Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann has voiced a concern for Tim Sherwood ahead of the FA Cup final.
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann told the Colin Murray Show for talkSPORT that he doesn’t know how Tim Sherwood will motivate his Aston Villa squad ahead of the FA Cup final, if they don’t manage to stay in the Premier League.
Hamann was responding to a caller into the show, who suggested that Aston Villa could benefit from the momentum they have been creating in the Premier League.
The club have given themselves a great chance of staying up since Sherwood arrived as manager, but they are still only two points above the bottom three as things stand.
“The final comes after the end of the Premier League – I don’t know what he would say to the squad ahead of the final if they don’t stay up,” said the German.
Villa have three very difficult games left in the season against West Ham, Southampton and Burnley.
Two of those games come at home where the club has to produce two wins, which would put the club the other side of the 40 points mark, which is normally enough to keep a side in the top flight.
Sherwood has been superb at the club so far in terms of the way he has motivated his squad, getting them to play without fear and driving them towards positive results.
He’ll have to dig deep if Villa head into the FA Cup final as a relegated club, but he’ll find a way to get the players and fans up for the occasion, but it would be remarkable based on recent performances if the side goes down.
