McGregor has boasted about the strength of Rangers squad in relation to their Championship rivals.
The defender said: “For me, we're a better team than them and that's just my perspective.”
Admittedly, Rangers do have one of the best squads in the Scottish Championship, and their placing as the third best team in the division tells its own story.
They face Queen of the South in the quarter-finals of the play-offs, with a victory over them allowing them to take on Hibs.
Queen of the South finished below Rangers in the league, so on paper have a squad that is worse than Stuart McCall’s. However, the Gers have yet to win at Palmerston this season, and strength on paper does not collate with form and results in a play-off campaign.
McGregor’s words are certainly boastful, and his claim is a big one to make prior to the start of the play-offs. Hearing that their squad is supposedly worse, it would be no surprise to see the Queens’ players turn up with real motivation to overcome their ‘better’ opponents.
McGregor may be right when assessing the strength of Rangers’ squad, but to do so immediately before taking on their play-off opponents may have just been a massive mistake.
