Villa supporters haven't quite been able to take reports of the ex-Arsenal captain's intentions seriously.
Judging by the initial reaction from Villa supporters, however, Adams may want to think twice.
Indeed, if fans haven't been laughing off the news on social media, they've been making jokes at Adams' expense or simply declaring their outright opposition to any such move.
Yes, it seems the Aston Villa faithful - keen as they are for a takeover to go through - wouldn't want the former Arsenal defender involved in the running of their club.
Reports also suggest Adams will want a footballing role at Villa Park should he achieve success in his bid and that, based on his managerial career thus far, has become a source of further worry (or laughter) for Aston Villa fans.
Tim Sherwood has done a remarkable job since taking over the Midlands side and the fear would be that any external involvement from a footballing figure like the ex-Arsenal man may just prove a hindrance to Villa's revival (this or next season).
The news, meanwhile, is far from impeccably timed. Aston Villa still aren't safe and the reports could serve as a distraction during a vital run-in... Here's what supporters made of the news on Twitter:
If the plan would involve removing Sherwood and replacing him with Adams, then I will be royally p*ssed off #AVFC— Villa Speak (@Villaspeak) May 7, 2015
"Tony Adams, who is expected to have a football role if the deal is completed." Well, that's Ron Vlaar's replacement sorted then...! #AVFC— Jake (@JakeWelch_88) May 7, 2015
Please don't let Tony Adams find any backers so he can take us over, the last thing we need is him drinking the profits! #avfc— Aaron Bridgewater (@aaron_b6) May 7, 2015
Exciting news about potential takeover at #AVFC but must admit tad put off by Tony Adams involvement. If it happens I hope I'm proved wrong!— Ben Cadwallader (@caddymation) May 7, 2015
