Tom Ince has told the Derby County website that the current squad knows exactly what they have to do to achieve promotion next season.
Ince spent time on loan with the Rams towards the end of the season, as he looked to get some form under his belt before heading back to Hull City.
It’s unclear whether Ince will have the chance to build on a first spell with Derby, but his message is clear as he departs.
“We had a meeting in the aftermath of the Reading game and we looked at what went wrong in the second half of the season and we realised the sense of disappointment,” he said.
“The lads in the dressing room know, with another campaign in the Championship coming up next year, what they have to do.”
Derby certainly have the infrastructure, resources and the experienced manager needed to win the Championship next year, but it’s important they focus on their shortcomings and what went wrong last season.
For two seasons in a row, Derby’s players have ended their campaigns with feelings of disappointment and regret.
Heartbreak in the play-off final against QPR was followed by a disappointing position outside the top six, when the Rams looked as though they were going to pull away from the pack at the top of the table.
New signings are important, getting rid of the deadwood is important and getting the tactics right over pre-season is important so the club can start the season well and take control of the division as they should have done last time round.
