Newcastle United have a potential piece of good news on the horizon, but must temper expectations.
Rolando Aarons featured for the under-21 side in their 4-2 win over Blackburn Rovers, and used his Twitter feed after the game to update on his fitness.
The promising winger explained that while he was delighted to be back in action, he still has work to do.
First game in 6 months, felt like it too rusty! But buzzing to be playing. Pushing for match fitness for the last few games— Rolando Aarons (@R_Aarons16) May 5, 2015
Such is the dire situation at Newcastle at present, there must be a temptation to view Aarons' return to fitness as the solution to their problems.
The 19-year-old winger is however evidently in his own words not up to full speed, nor match fit for the Premier League just yet.
Having Aarons back available for the last couple of games would be a boost for the club, but this weekend against West Brom at home, don't expect him to figure in the starting line-up.
With just three league games under his belt this season before his hamstring troubles, Aarons cannot be viewed as an instant solution by John Carver, who must figure out a way for the options he had previously available to step up against the Baggies and halt their slide which makes relegation a genuine possibility.
