Arsenal have been linked with a move for a Portuguese international midfielder.
The latest report claims Arsenal failed in an earlier bid to sign the 23-year-old defensive midfielder for €30million but that the Gunners are now prepared to include Joel Campbell in a player-plus-cash deal this summer.
Campbell is currently on loan at Spanish side Villarreal, where he has made 19 appearances to date. But without a goal or an assist in that time it would be surprising if the La Liga club turned his temporary move into a permanent one.
Considering the number of attacking options at Arsenal right now, it will be hard for the Costa Rica international to break into the first-team on a permanent basis, while the Gunners’ need for another quality holding midfielder could be enough reason to wave goodbye to the 22-year-old.
William was a regular in the gossip columns last year, with first Manchester United and then Arsenal linked with the player. But could the Gunners finally get their man?
He is certainly worth the effort, even if his second season at Sporting has not been quite as impressive as his debut campaign during which he put in a series of outstanding displays.
