Paul Dummett: The whole Newcastle squad are gutted after Leicester defeat

Newcastle United have lost their last eight league matches on the trot.

Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has told the Chronicle that the whole squad are down after their heavy defeat to Leicester City.

Leicester beat Newcastle 3-0 in their last fixture, with the deficiencies in the Toon's squad exposed in the match.

It was a defeat which has heaped pressure on to the team and Dummett insists that they are determined to get back on track soon.

“Everyone is gutted. We knew how important the game [against Leicester] was," he said. “We need to have a good week of training. And we need to put it right against West Brom.”

It is no surprise that Newcastle's players are short of confidence at the moment, but they have little time to feel sorry for themselves.

The North East outfit have lost their last eight matches and they need to arrest this slide if they are to move away from the drop zone.

Newcastle have looked safe all season, but they are now only two points away from the bottom three and they need at least one more win before they can feel safe.

In normal circumstances, a home game against West Brom would be a good opportunity to claim three points, but after Dummett's comments today it will be up to the squad to prove that they can bounce back and show their character at the weekend.
