Montreal Impact respond to Crystal Palace's reported interest in Nigel Reo-Coker

Palace boss Alan Pardew is said to be keen to reunite with the ex-West Ham United and Aston Villa midfielder.

Crystal Palace have made no contact with the Montreal Impact about Nigel Reo-Coker’s availability, a spokesperson for the MLS club has told

ESPN FC had reported this week that Reo-Coker is a summer transfer target for Palace manager Alan Pardew, who signed the midfielder for West Ham United in 2004 and later made him club captain.

Pardew is said to believe that the former England Under-21 international still has a lot to offer at the Premier League level, but Montreal officials have now poured cold water on the odds of an imminent departure.

A club spokesperson is quoted as telling the website: "What I can tell you is that Crystal Palace never contacted us about Reo-Coker.”

Reo-Coker, who turns 31 this month, has led a nomadic MLS life since joining the Vancouver Whitecaps from Ipswich Town in 2013, getting traded to the now-defunct Chivas USA in August before the Impact picked him up in December’s Dispersal Draft.

Taking on the captain’s armband with usual skipper Patrice Bernier out of the side, the ex-Aston Villa star helped the Canadian outfit mount a Cinderella run to the CONCACAF Championship League final this spring, coming up against Mexican giants Club America.

However, their hopes of becoming the first MLS club to win the title were dashed after a 4-2 home defeat saw them lose the two-legged series 5-3 on aggregate, with Reo-Coker’s second-leg performance coming in for considerable criticism.

Forced to fill in at right-back due to injures to defenders Victor Cabrera and Hassoun Camara, the Englishman proved culpable for three of America’s four second-half goals, as the Impact’s historic run came to a disappointing end.

Even when overlooking that performance, though, Reo-Coker has far from stood out during his time in MLS, suggesting that a Premier League return would not be wisest of moves - no matter how big a fan Pardew is of his leadership and experience.
