Ben Pearson talked up the ability of Manchester United teammate James Wilson in an interview with United’s official website.
The 20-year-old, who returned from his loan spell with Barnsley last weekend, claims the England under-20 international may be faster than both Angel di Maria and Antonio Valencia with the ball, despite not being fancied to be among the quickest by supporters.
‘’Angel di Maria has got to be up there,’’ Pearson told manutd.com. ‘’But I think it’s underestimated how fast Wilson is, with the ball as well.
‘’Without the ball, maybe Di Maria is a bit quicker or Antonio Valencia but, with the ball, I can’t see anyone being faster than Wilson.’’
Although not considered a slow player by critics and supporters, very few would name Wilson as the quickest United player with the ball at his feet.
The talented forward is still yet to show his best when picked for the Red Devils first team but he has shown signs of promise and reasons to be optimistic over his future at the club.
The last appearance Wilson made on the bench for Louis van Gaal’s side was in March, against Tottenham Hotspur, and his last appearance for the club came as a substitute during the 3-1 win against Burnley in February.
Both Wilson and Pearson will have high hopes to be much closer to the first team next season, and with a big pre-season they may well get their wish.
Wilson continues to play a big role for the club’s under-21 Premier League side, while Pearson can now boast a successful loan spell at League One Barnsley on his CV.
