The 31-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 15 Championship appearances for the Rams, wrote a message to Derby fans on Instagram with images of his time at the club and the caption: ‘’it will make us stronger next season.’’
The hugely popular forward had an important job to do for Steve McClaren’s side in the absence of top goalscorer Chris Martin but despite getting his name on the scoresheet more often than not, he couldn’t stop the Rams slipping out of the top six.
After the shock defeat to Reading on Saturday, which saw the Rams fail to make the play-offs, it seemed inconceivable Bent would be still playing his football at the iPro Stadium next season. However, his message on Instagram would suggest differently.
According to the Derby Telegraph, the players at the club were all set to sit down with McClaren on Tuesday – the day the image was posted - and discuss their futures at the club.
With Bent out of contract at Aston Villa, it seems the forward would have been well within his rights to discuss a permanent deal with Derby and judging by the message to fans, the news could well be good.
If the Rams can persuade the likes of Tom Ince and Darren Bent their future is in the East Midlands then it would set the club up with a strong chance at another promotion push next season.
