7 goals in 10 games: Arsenal teenager Alex Iwobi a 'huge threat' says boss

Flames At The Emirates

Arsenal's Alex Iwobi has found real form in recent weeks for the under-21s.

Alex Iwobi's form has earned him praise from Arsenal under-21 boss Steve Gatting.

Iwobi scored the winner on Monday against Brighton and Hove Albion, his seventh in 10 games for the under-21s.

An attacking midfielder, Iwobi has been played in recent weeks as a striker in four of his last 10 games, and has taken to the role comfortably.

It was playing up front which he netted the winner against Brighton, and in the same position which he bagged a hat-trick against Stoke City a few weeks ago.

Gatting told Arsenal.com: "Alex played No 9 against Brighton and he is a huge threat.

"He gets in good goalscoring positions but I guess it was one of those goals where it was more difficult to miss."

Iwobi's clever movement was picked out by an assist from midfielder Gedion Zelalem.

At just 19, the Nigerian born attacker is getting to the stage of his development where first team football will not be far off.

He was named on the bench for a Champions League game earlier this season, and has captained both the under-21s and the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

Fans may hope for a closer look at the promising attacker during pre-season, where Iwobi will no doubt be keen to show Arsene Wenger he is deserving of more opportunities.
