Sheffield Wednesday have allowed 11 players to leave the club today.
Wednesday are allowing Lewis Buxton, Giles Coke, Paul Corry, Rafa Floro, Dejan Kelhar, Gary Madine, Joe Mattock, Jacques Maghoma, Rhys McCabe, Matt Young and Kamil Zayatte to leave the club and the announcement has been met by a mixed reaction from Wednesday supporters.
Owls fans are widely disappointed to see Buxton leave, but most supporters understand the thinking behind allowing the others to move on.
Wednesday plan to offer new deals to Chris Kirkland, Kieran Lee, Glenn Loovens, Chris Maguire and Jose Semedo and Gray has admitted that letting so many of his current squad go was a tough task.
“Releasing players is never an easy process because I have worked with these boys for some time," he said.
“They are good, honest professionals who have given me nothing but their full support since I took on the role of head coach."
Wednesday have been forced to be ruthless as expectation levels continue to rise.
The takeover of Dejphon Chansiri means that the Yorkshire outfit now have money to spend and Gray is clearly looking to make room for new additions.
Wednesday are expected to be active over the summer transfer window and, with 11 players heading out the exit door, Hillsborough could be a very busy place in the next few months.
Here is the best reaction from Wednesday fans to the retained list, which came out earlier today.
Not messing about with that released list, sad Buxton's gone though #swfc— Joe Hall (@jh2k_owl) May 5, 2015
Buxton the one surprise for me. Has been a decent player through the years. Good luck to him. #swfc— Max Seed (@MaxDelSeed) May 5, 2015
No real surprises on the released list. Sad to see the likes of Buxton go; who has been a great servant to the club. #Swfc— D A N N Y (@DannyWearin) May 5, 2015
I pick out Lewis Buxton looking at #swfc's released list. Brilliant service, an unforgettable promotion & showed how you can turn it around.— Chris Brookes (@chris_brookes) May 5, 2015

Well we're definitely not messing around with that retained list! #swfc— Lauren Brown (@lozbrown1) May 5, 2015
We can't be sentimental if we are to move upwards. Buxton has been a terrific servant though, there's no doubt. #swfc— Terry Hibberd (@HoylandOwl) May 5, 2015
So sad to see our best crosser and longest servant Lewis Buxton leave #swfc. I am sure he will get sorted with a good FL team very soon.— Andy Parsons (@andypars) May 5, 2015
