Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce told talkSPORT what John Carver has to bear in mind as he criticises Newcastle United’s squad.
The Chronicle has carried quotes from Carver where he suggested that the Newcastle squad need to take a long and hard look at themselves, as the club fight to survive in the Premier League over the next few weeks.
Pearce suggested that the Magpies boss needs to be careful, because the squad he’s talking about is the same squad he’s going to be relying on over the side’s remaining games.
“He has to be careful because the same players he talks about are the ones he’s going to pick next week,” said Pearce.
There is a lot of discontent from fans towards the club at the moment, but the major issues over the running of the side need to temporarily be put to one side.
The most important thing in light of everything that’s going on is that Newcastle remain a Premier League club.
The financial aspect coupled with the quality of the play are two of the main reasons the Magpies need to stay in the top flight.
Newcastle couldn’t be doing much worse at the moment, but they are still outside the bottom three and need to protect that.
Aston Villa, local rivals Sunderland, Hull City and others are all fighting hard and Carver must find a way to get more out of his players.
