La Liga expert and pundit Graham Hunter has told Sky Sports' Revista De La Liga that Celtic are scouting Elche striker Jonathas.
Celtic have seen Leigh Griffiths thrive under Ronny Deila this season, but with John Guidetti likely to leave when his loan deal from Manchester City ends and Stefan Scepovic making little impact in Scotland, the Bhoys may well need at least one new striker this summer.
Now, Sky Sports pundit Hunter passed on some transfer gossip on Revista De La Liga on Monday, suggesting that Celtic are monitoring Elche hitman Jonathas.
"The champions of Scotland have been at many of Jonathas' matches to watch him [this season], so if he's leaving, it's not guaranteed where he will go," said Hunter, when asked whether the striker could sign for Sevilla instead.
Jonathas, 26, is a big, strong striker with superb aerial ability, and has so far had a winding career which has seen him turn out for Cruzeiro, AZ Alkmaar, Brescia, Pescara, Torino, Latina and now Elche, where he appears to be at home.
Elche sit in 13th place in the La Liga table, but have scored just 33 goals in 35 games this season - with Jonathas providing 12 goals, meaning he's scored over a third of Elche's goals this term.
Jonathas is only on loan from Pescara so could be available this summer, though his exploits will have hiked up their asking price for the Brazilian striker.
Celtic may well be watching Jonathas ahead of a potential summer move, with Deila no doubt looking to add some more firepower, if Guidetti does indeed leave - and will be hoping that the price tag isn't too high this summer.
