Southampton’s Premier League campaign may be in danger of petering out after defeat to Sunderland, but it would appear that the Saints are already preparing for next season and a renewed push for a top-four finish.
Ronald Koeman has already been linked with a series of summer swoops designed to take the south coast club to the next level and one rumoured target showed why he could soon be Premier League-bound this week.
Eder currently plies his trade in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with Braga but could be on his way to England, with The Daily Star previously reporting Southampton’s interest in the 27-year-old.
A Portugal international with 17 caps to his name, the 6ft 3in forward has managed 23 league goals in 58 appearances for Braga to date.
Contracted to the club until the summer of 2016, the striker has reportedly rebuffed the offer of a new contract and is likely to be sold this summer with Braga preferring to cash-in on one of their key assets rather than allow him to leave for nothing.
An integral part of the side that is set to finish fourth in Portugal, Eder showed his worth with a well-taken equaliser against Pacos De Ferreira.
Scored in the 95th minute of a tightly-contested 2-2 draw, the goal guaranteed Braga a place in the Europa League for next season.
The forward previously made headlines on social media earlier this season after scoring a memorable bicycle kick against Estoril.
Available for as little as £1 million, if The Daily Star report is to be believed, Eder’s penchant for important goals would make him a canny addition to the Southampton squad.
