Ozil believes that Arsenal can attack on the break because they have a number of exceptionally quick players.
The German international said: “We know that one of our strengths is on the break because we have some really fast attacking players and I want to praise the team again for that.”
Arsenal have built a reputation for their lightning quick attacking play, but they have taken it one step further this season, adding an efficiency that they usually lacked.
The North London club are now able to break consistently and keep up their counter attacking threat, with added defensive solidity meaning that fewer players have to remain in the defensive third, allowing more bodies to charge forward into the offensive third.
This has aided the club this season, and although the Premier League title is already Chelsea’s, the Gunners are set to secure a second placed finish if they keep up their impressive form.
The return of Francis Coquelin from his loan deal with Charlton has provided the real boost to this system, as he added a steel and strength to the midfield that was lacking prior to his breakthrough.
His inclusion has shielded the defence, and although his on-the-ball ability is not the greatest, he has enough about him to spring attacks with simple passes to his more illustrious teammates.
Coquelin has fixed the one problem in the Arsenal team, and if he was playing for this whole season the title race may not yet have been concluded. Regardless of this term, he has fixed a problem that was evident in the Gunners ranks, and next season should be a real test of whether Arsenal can be realistic title challengers once again.
