Former Arsenal striker John Hartson told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT what impressed him about his old side’s performance against Hull City last night.
The Gunners were superb in a 3-1 win against the Tigers, with midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez grabbing the goals, which keeps them in the race to finish second behind champions Chelsea.
“I was impressed with the pace and the way they attacked space in wide areas – They have top quality players who can pick out that pass, which makes the difference,” said the Welshman.
Arsenal are gifted to have so many quality players through the middle of their team and when they move the ball at pace, they are difficult to deal with.
The difference between Arsenal when they play well out wide and other sides, who have talented wingers, is that Arsene Wenger’s team are world class in terms of protecting the ball.
They attack space and counter attack well with pace and do so without risking the football and wasting a good opportunity to get players one on one, exploiting opposition defenders.
Regardless of where the Gunners finish in the table, they need to work hard to try and close that gap from Chelsea next season.
Arsenal have the quality to win big games, but they need to do it consistently if they want to have any chance of winning the Premier League again under Arsene Wenger.
The boss needs to work on the strengths of the side, support them but also bring in options over the summer to get rid of the weaknesses.
