When Tottenham Hotspur signed MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli for £5million back in January, few football fans saw it as anything other than a wonderful piece of business.
The teenager is prodigiously talented and looks destined for the top of the game, but Spurs fans have had to wait patiently to see him up close, with the 19-year-old remaining on loan with the League One side for the rest of this season.
That campaign has now come to an end, with Alli helping his side to automatic promotion to the Championship with a final day victory against Yeovil Town.
For once, Alli did not score or assist in what ended up being a 5-1 victory for the Dons, but his form immediately prior to that speaks of a player who could be destined for superstardom at White Hart Lane.
Shortly after signing for Tottenham, Alli suffered an injury that ruled him out of the next seven league matches. But having returned he wasted little time reminding everyone what he is capable of.
After a few matches to regain his fitness, Alli then went on a run that saw him score twice and provide four assists in just four matches.
In short, he is a class act and when you consider he ended the campaign with 16 goals and 11 assists, Tottenham fans are right to be excited.
Many players take their time to rediscover their best form after an injury absence, but Alli carried on as if he had never been away.
For that reason and many others, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be hard pressed not to include him in his first-team squad as soon as he can.
