Former England forward Stan Collymore has suggested Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy needs to get out his chequebook.
Former Aston Villa and Liverpool forward Stan Collymore explained in a live session for Periscope TV that he feels Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy needs to spend big this summer.
Collymore suggested that the main theme in Tottenham’s squad has been based on the talent and progress of Harry Kane up front.
Outside of the club’s top scorer, it’s been difficult at times to see where the goals have been likely to come from, which is something that needs to change looking ahead to next season.
“What’s his transfer strategy going to be? They’ve had a huge reliance this season on one player – Daniel Levy has to open his chequebook and go for some of these expensive players – Pochettino needs to identify the deadwood and get them out,” said Collymore.
Tottenham are a big club with decent resources and they can be competitive with a lot of the transfers they go after this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino needs to quickly out the players he no longer feels are good enough, which will free up squad space and leave room for manoeuvre on the wage bill.
That should allow Tottenham to target a calibre of player higher in profile and higher in quality, although it will be expensive.
Kane will rightly start next season as the main man up front for the club, but he needs someone snapping at his heels to not only keep him on his toes, but to improve his overall quality.
If Levy and Pochettino get it right, Tottenham should finally get back into the top four over 2015/2016.
