Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that Arsenal should sign Luciano Vietto from Villarreal in the summer.
The former Arsenal forward believes that the 21-year-old Argentine has all the attributes to be a success at the Emirates Stadium.
“I don’t think Wenger particularly wants or needs a new striker – we can win the league with Olivier Giroud,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“But if we are to get one in, rather than go for a big name, I’d like to see us target Luciano Vietto, the young Argentinian lad at Villarreal.
“He’s an Arsenal type of player – he’s all about good movement, but his touch is good too and I think we could get him at a good price. He might need a bit of time to adapt, but he’s got so much potential.”
Vietto joined Spanish club Villarreal from Argentine outfit Racing Club in the summer of 2014 and has established himself as one of the more promising young strikers in La Liga.
The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals and created 22 chances in 30 La Liga appearances so far this season.
The youngster has a pass accuracy of 72% and a shot accuracy of 53%, and he has won six headers, 30 dribbles and 13 tackles.
Vietto is very good with his movement and can drop deep or play as a poacher. The youngster is fast and used his pace well.
One area where the youngster could struggle in the Premier League is his physical ability. However, the Argentine has shown enough footballing intelligence this season to suggest that he could overcome that problem if he was to move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
