Did Celtic pull off a master-stroke signing this player?
The report claims the Belgian side are keen on bringing in the 23-year-old Israel international and would happily part with one of their current players to sweeten the deal. But surely Celtic would be crazy to part with one of their most impressive players this season.
Bitton took some time to settle in Scotland following his £700,000 move, but this season he has grown into a wonderful defensive midfielder whose performances against Inter Milan in particular stood out.
They gave a glimpse of the player Bitton could one day become: a brilliant defensive midfielder which is something of a Holy Grail in footballing terms.
The very best clubs have a quality holding midfielder and Bitton is well on the way to becoming one of those. As a result, his ongoing presence at Celtic is surely far more important than bringing in whichever player Brugge allegedly feel they could do without.
In fact, the longer Bitton remains at Celtic, the more chance Ronny Deila’s side has of attracting more great young talent.
Celtic need players who can make a difference not just in Scotland but also in European competition, and Bitton has already shown he is capable of that.
With a few more years under his belt, there is no telling how good he might be and others are likely to look to his development as a reason to join the Bhoys.
Great defensive midfielders are hard to find, so when you have one showing all the signs of following that path, you do everything you can to keep him.
