Tottenham Hotspur striker Daniel Akindayini expected to be released, goes on trial against Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur striker Daniel Akindayini has been on loan with Brighton, against Arsenal.

Daniel Akindayini's departure from Tottenham Hotspur looks increasingly close, after he went on a second trial away from the club.

The 19-year-old has been a regular for their under-21s this season, was missing from their squad which played on Monday.

Instead he was on trial with Brighton and Hove Albion's under-21 team, as reported by the Seagulls' official website - taking on Spurs' north London rivals Arsenal.

Akindayini started the game and played 80 minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net as Brighton lost 1-0 thanks to a goal from Alex Iwobi for Arsenal.

A fortnight ago Akindayini was on trial with Ipswich Town, again failing to score as they lost 2-0 to Bristol City.

Akindayini has scored four goals in 19 appearances for Spurs’ Under-21s this season, and found the back of the net 15 times in 27 appearances for Tottenham U-18s last year.

The fact he is out on trial with clubs indicates Tottenham are expecting to let him go. Last season they permitted Victor Zapata Caicedo to go on trial with Sunderland weeks before releasing him.
