Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins has predicted on Sky Sports that Arsenal will win the FA Cup this season.
The Gunners will take on Premier League rivals Aston Villa at London’s Wembley Stadium in the final of the prestigious cup competition on Saturday, May 30 - a week after the 2014-15 Premier League campaign comes to an end.
“The signing of Alexis Sanchez has been a massive plus for them,” Wilkins told Sky Sports while discussing Arsenal’s 2014-15 campaign.
“He’s been absolutely outstanding and I think they will go on and win the FA Cup. So I would have to say a hit for Arsenal.”
Could Ray Wilkins’s prediction come true?
As things stand, Arsenal will head into the final in May as favourites. Not only do the Gunners have a better team, but they also have the momentum.
However, this is a cup game and anything is possible. Against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Tim Sherwood’s Villa showed that they can step up their game against the bigger teams.
If the Villans retain their Premier League status for next season, then the players will be even more motivated to win the cup.
If Villa play with the same energy and determination as they did against Liverpool in the semi-finals last month, then they will certainly stand a good chance of winning the FA Cup final at the expense of Arsenal.
