Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted to Sky Sports that Alexis Sanchez has surpassed his expectations this season.
Chile international forward Sanchez has been the best player for Arsenal this campaign, having joined the Gunners from Spanish giants Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
The 26-year-old was once again in superb form on Saturday, as the North London outfit got the better of relegation-threatened Hull City 3-1 away from home in the Premier League.
Sanchez scored twice at the KC Stadium to take his goals tally to 16 in the Premier League and 24 in all competitions this campaign.
After the match, Wenger admitted that the former Udinese star has surpassed his expectations in terms of scoring goals.
“I expected him to be more of a provider than a goalscorer, especially because I played him on the flank when you have fewer chances (to score).”
Sanchez has probably been the signing of the season in the Premier League, and one suspects that without him Arsenal would not have finished in the top four yet again.
The 26-year-old has not just scored goals, he has created them too. Sanchez has been responsibly for 70 of the 408 chances that Arsenal have created this campaign.
