The Tottenham star was unlucky to be on the losing team after another great game, and was the best player on the pitch in several categories.
The academy youngster has grown in influence since returning from the African Cup of Nations at the start of the year, and with Yaya Toure sitting the match out injured, the Spurs man was the star performer on the pitch from that continent.
Below we look at Bentaleb's statistics from the game:
|Position||Team||Accurate Pass||Passing Accuracy||Total Scoring Attempts||Touches||Ground Duel Won||Won Tackle||Interception Won||Mins Played|
The Algerian international made more successful passes than any player from either side, despite having to face a powerful midfield in the 1-0 victory to City.
Spanish star David Silva was the next strongest passer, nine behind the Spurs midfielder, and he shone for the visitors, posting a 94% accuracy and also setting up Sergio Aguero for the game's only goal.
Bentaleb had Tottenham's best percentage with 89%, and he was second only to City's ex-Valencia favourite. But the 20-year-old also had more touches that any other midfielder on the pitch, and along with Danny Rose, won the joint most ground duels with 10.
His tackling was strong too, and again, no other player could beat the former Lens youngster's 4 challenges.
It was further evidence that Bentaleb is essential to Tottenham's long term plans, and it isn't too much to suggest that he could go on to become Africa's best midfielder in the coming years.
