Tottenham Hotspur’s official Twitter account was quick to congratulate one of their own, after January signing Dele Alli helped his loan club MK Dons secure automatic promotion to the Championship this weekend.
For a change Alli did not get on the score-sheet, but he still played his part in a 5-1 victory against Yeovil Town.
The 19-year-old was making his 88th and final appearance for the Dons before heading to North London, where his next challenge is to earn a regular starting spot in Tottenham’s first-team.
Spurs’ message to the teenager read: “Well done to Dele Alli who played 90 minutes as MK Dons beat Yeovil 5-1 to secure promotion to the Championship.”
Tottenham signed Alli in a £5million deal back in January, but he remained where he was for the remainder of the campaign.
He ended the season with 16 goals and 11 assists and that kind of form will no doubt excite the Tottenham fans hoping they have signed the next big thing.
He certainly has that reputation, and the talent to back up those assertions, but he will have to be patient as he embarks on the next stage of his career.
That is after he is done celebrating the Dons’ promotion, of course.
