The England international did not have his best game for the club this afternoon.
There is no doubt that Ryan Mason has had a very good season at Tottenham Hotspur. The young midfielder has burst into the side under Mauricio Pochettino and is keeping the likes of Moussa Dembele and Paulinho out of the first-team at White Hart Lane.
But today, was not one of his better days.
The midfielder, who has also made it into the England senior set-up this season, was poor throughout before finally being replaced by Brazilian international Paulinho.
Mason was the nearest man to Sergio Aguero when he opened the scoring for City, but he simply did not follow the run of the deadly Argentine attacker.
He also had a chance to score himself. Clean through on goal a poor first-touch made life difficult for himself and Joe Hart made a good stop.
To top it all off he managed to pick himself up a booking as well.
Tottenham fans like the midfielder, but today was a very bad day at the office.
Plenty of fans have taken to Twitter after the game to make it clear that they were not pleased with the performance of the academy graduate:
There’s plenty of blame to go around for that goal, but my word, Ryan Mason, what are you doing not tracking Aguero all the way?— Ledley King's Knees (@cartilagefree) May 3, 2015
Ryan Mason's a big boy and, hopefully, he'll learn from that moment.— Seb Stafford-Bloor (@SebSB) May 3, 2015
Ryan Mason is the anti-Christ.— Sam's Army (@BarstoolSam) May 3, 2015
Ryan Mason does not deserve a yellow card for that tackle. Ryan Mason does deserve a yellow card for the other 99% of his play this half.— Sam's Army (@BarstoolSam) May 3, 2015
Dembele is being kept out of this Spurs side by Ryan Mason. I'd sack Pochettino for doing that alone.— Huw (@SwanseaHuw) May 3, 2015
Love Ryan mason. Academy player, works hard, but is only decent. Would be a great backup but really can't being a starter if we want top 4— Bobby (@BobbyCoys) May 3, 2015
Ryan Mason showing signs of being a player who just runs around a lot doing nothing. Maybe he's tired, but hope we replace him this summer.— Freddie (@Freddie_THFC) May 3, 2015
